The month of January has been a busy one for the Masonry Association of Florida, holding three masonry courses, and issuing over 700 CEU’s to Florida masonry industry professionals.
The video-taping of the Masonry Construction & Inspection Certification Workshop for the AIA Florida Distance Learning Program, and the soon-to-be-launched online certification program for engineers, contractors and building officials was completed in Tallahassee on January 13th and 14th to rave reviews! The next week saw Don Beers, putting in more miles as he travelled to the Seminole State College, Wharton Smith Center for Construction to provide a 2-hour masonry education program to more than 30 students. And finally, last-but-not-least, the MAF held a Masonry Workshop in Orlando this past Friday and Saturday. As part of the Masonry Association's ongoing partnership with the American Institute of Architects Florida chapter, the Masonry Construction & Inspection Workshop began filming at the Liberty Bar in Tallahassee, Florida yesterday and will wrap up today. Stay tuned for the online coursework beginning April 2016! For questions, contact Deb Bartolucci deb@floridamasonry.com or Don Beers don@floridamasonry.com.

The MAF sponsored Florida Association of American Institute of Architects (AIA FL) Honor & Design Awards category for masonry is in it's fifth year and part of a continued partnership between the MAF and AIA FL. This year's award goes to Rowe Architects of Tampa, Florida for Hough Hall, at the University of Florida. It is a nice coincidence that this year's winning project was built by MAF Mason Contractor, Painter Masonry, Inc. of Gainesville, Florida.
The MAF also participates in the AIA FL annual convention, by providing a continuing education course to the attendees. This year, the topic was "Winning With Masonry" and featured Hough Hall and some of the past award winning projects. The course was attended by over 120 architects. The MAF Sponsored award for the 2011 AIA Florida/Caribbean Masonry Merit Award winner by HUUM Architect's Scott Hughes has made the cover of Florida Design Magazine. Ensconced in the hillside which overlooks the water, the structure is a series of expansive and intimate courtyards and cantilevered decks, which architectonically echo the diaphanous volumes of the interior, spaces which seem to defy gravity, even while embracing the solidity of Minnesota limestone and stucco facades. Views to the southwest encompass the dynamic activity of the marina in an inland waterway and track the movements of sun, wind and water. View more details here: http://www.huum.com/River-Road
